Description
Used for symptomatic relief of acute and chronic diarrhea. Also used as part of ileostomy management to control volume discharge.

Antimotility/ Antidiarrheal
Dosage
Adults:
(Acute diarrhea) Take 2 capsules initially, followed by 1 capsule after each loose or watery stool,or as directed by a doctor.Usual daily dose is 6-8 mg (3-4 capsules). Maximum dose of 16 mg (8 capsules) per day.
(Chronic diarrhea) Usual initial dose is 2-4 capsules daily in divided doses subsequently adjusted as needed. Maximum dose of 16 mg (8 capsules) per day. If symptoms persist, consult the doctor.
Precautions
Caution use in patients taking anti-infectives and other medications, and those with severe or persistent diarrhea and liver dysfunction. Not recommended for use in infants and children below 12 yrs old.
Side Effects
May cause abdominal pain, stomach discomforts, constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, and skin rashes.
Contraindications
Do not give to patients with known allergy to loperamide, those with constipation or should avoid constipation and any condition where peristalsis (contraction and relaxation movement of intestinal muscles or digestive tract) should be avoided. Not intended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
